About

Come join the Mathematics Club for the 6th meeting of the semester. We will be meeting at room 1133 in Govil Hall at the STEM+Ag complex at 5pm. The postdoc Dr. John Cobb will be giving a talk titled: Art, Doodles, and Geometry. Come listen to the talk and enjoy some pizza.

Abstract: I will explore how ideas inspired by drawings connects to deeper mathematics. We’ll start by investigating and answering some natural questions coming from a doodle that many of us have done. I’ll use these questions to motivate the rise of perspective drawing in art and the corresponding development of projective geometry in math, and will touch on the mathematics of moduli spaces and medical imaging.
