About
Residents will participate in an interactive career development workshop focused on building a strong résumé, exploring on-campus employment, and identifying internship opportunities relevant to CHABSS students. The CSUSM Career Center will provide guidance on résumé development and offer an overview of Handshake, including how students can use the platform to find campus jobs, internships, and other professional opportunities. Following the workshop, residents will hear from a panel of fellow students who will share their experiences working in campus positions and participating in internships. Panelists will discuss their application processes, tips for standing out as applicants, and how they have gained valuable skills through these experiences. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions, connect with peers, and enjoy pie and ice cream while learning about resources available to support their academic and career goals.
Learning Outcomes 1. Residents will identify at least two career and professional development resources available through CSUSM, including the Career Center and Handshake. 2. Residents will identify at least two strategies for strengthening their résumé or improving their applications for campus jobs and internships. 3. Residents will demonstrate an understanding of how to navigate Handshake to explore employment and internship opportunities relevant to their interests and career goals.
By combining guidance from the CSUSM Career Center with the firsthand experiences of student panelists, this program will help residents develop the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue campus employment and internship opportunities. The interactive résumé workshop and Handshake overview will introduce residents to practical tools they can use throughout their college experience, while the student panel will provide relatable advice on navigating applications and gaining professional experience. Through these activities, residents will strengthen their career readiness, improve their technological fluency in using professional development platforms, and learn how to take meaningful steps toward their future career goals.
Through this, we will accomplish Career and Professional Development and Technological Fluency domains.
