About
Let's Talk is a free, confidential, one-on-one, drop-in opportunity for students on our San Luis Obispo and Solano campuses to informally consult with a Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) mental health provider.
Let’s Talk is not therapy, but you can talk about anything on your mind, share something that recently took place, or ask questions/seek guidance (e.g., how to help a friend, how to seek services, wanting to learn more about a coping skill). We help one student at a time, so there may be a brief waiting period to be seen. It’s like drop-in office hours … with a mental health specialist!
Want to learn more about which CAPS provider you'll be meeting with? Check out our Meet the Staff page. Learn more about other CAPS’ Let’s Talks here.
Things to consider before dropping into Let’s Talk:
1. Let’s Talk is not a replacement for therapy and is not a crisis intervention space.
2. If you share information about planning to harm yourself or others, and/or share knowledge of abuse occurring to someone from a vulnerable population, then the Let’s Talk provider may be ethically required to take steps that break your confidentiality.
3. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call CAPS at 805-756-2511 and either ask for an urgent appointment or select to be connected to our CAPS Crisis Line. You can also call 9-1-1 or go to the Emergency Room. Click here for more detailed resources about what to do in a crisis.
