About
Step Into the World of Motion Capture
What if bringing a digital character to life was as simple as moving your own body? In Digital You, you’ll get hands-on with motion capture (MoCap) and discover how real human movement can be transformed into digital animation. Using just a laptop and webcam, you’ll capture your own movements and use them to make a digital avatar walk, dance, and move like you—no animation or technical experience required.
Along the way, you’ll learn how motion capture works and see how the same technology is being used across video games, film, animation, virtual production, sports, research, and immersive experiences. We’ll also explore some of the creative and technical careers behind these experiences, from animators and game developers to 3D artists, performers, technical artists, and virtual production teams. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own short character animation and gained a better understanding of how movement travels from the physical world to the digital one.
What is the KLEVR Lab?
Located in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library at San José State University, the KLEVR Lab gives students opportunities to explore emerging technologies and experiment with new forms of digital creativity and learning. We are available as a resource to learn how to get support on how to create VR/AR/MoCap projects, short term rentals of VR and computing equipment, and as a place to hang out.
