Poster Presentation
Presenters: Cynthia Halliday, Associate Professor of Management, Marketing, Management, and Supply Chain
This poster presentation showcases an authentic learning project implemented in a graduate management course where student teams analyze real organizations and diagnose workplace challenges through the application of organizational behavior concepts. Students examine issues including ineffective communication, low employee morale, employee turnover, poor collaboration, and workplace stress, then develop evidence-based recommendations supported by research. They present their findings in a professional executive summary report and a management style presentation.
The project addresses a persistent challenge in management education by helping students move beyond memorizing theories and toward applying concepts in realistic organizational settings. While many students can explain organizational behavior principles, they often struggle to diagnose complex workplace problems and propose actionable solutions. This assignment bridges that gap through research, critical analysis, professional communication, teamwork, and problem-solving activities that mirror consulting and managerial practice. It also aligns with the UTEP Edge framework by strengthening communication, confidence, critical thinking.
