About
AI systems increasingly rely on personal information for profiling, predictions and automated decisions, so knowing who collects your data and how to control it is part of AI literacy. In this hands-on workshop you’ll learn what data brokers are, how your information ends up in their files, and how California’s free Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) lets residents ask every registered data broker to delete it with one request. We’ll walk through signing up step by step, explain what to expect afterward, and cover the other privacy rights Californians have, including the rights to know, delete, correct and opt out. We’ll also be candid about the limits of these tools. Bring a phone or laptop if you’d like to follow along. No prior experience is required.
Facilitator Bio:
Ben Tobin is the founder and CEO of Sirveil Inc., a San Jose company focused on personal data privacy and data broker transparency. He follows California’s data broker rules closely and has taken part in the California Privacy Protection Agency’s public process. He presents this workshop as a free community program.
