About
Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) is an incredibly complex, choreographed set of rituals that blend together distinct elements of Japanese cultural arts. There are three main schools of Chanoyu: Urasenke, Omotesenke, and Mushanokojisenke. Each school has its differences but all are important.
We are inviting the Omotesenke Domonkai Eastern Region USA (one of few certified Omotesenke organizations outside of Japan) to conduct lessons in the Omotesenke style. Students will immerse themselves in Japanese culture and learn the art (Otemae) of preparing different types of matcha tea as part of the Japanese tea ceremony, which includes learning about Japanese ceramics and tea-specific utensils, seasonal Japanese decor, Japanese language, and tenants of Zen Buddhism.
