“Interplay between magnetic fluctuations, crystal symmetry, and superconductivity in ultra-thin metals”
Interplay between magnetic fluctuations, crystal symmetry, and superconductivity in ultra-thin metals Abstract: In this presentation I will discuss results from a range of thin-film quantum materials where magnetic field-enhanced or induced superconductivity is observed. These materials include layered intermetallics, refractory metal oxides, and kagome intermetallics. The surprising pervasiveness of this physics has quantitative and qualitative impacts on how the critical magnetic field is used to infer unconventional superconducting characteristics in two-dimensional systems. I will also discuss examples of in-situ phase transformations that can be used as a tool control local structural distortions that are strongly coupled to the emergence of superconductivity.
