About
As part of FSU Global's Celebration of International Education, FSU Research Development and the Office of Faculty Development and Advancement are hosting a panel talk on the Fulbright Program. This talk will feature three FSU faculty members who have won Fulbright Awards: Dr. Tatjana Soldat-Jaffe from the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics; Dr. Nora Underwood from the Department of Biological Science; and Dr. Shuyuan Metcalfe from the School of Information. Dr. Soldat-Jaffe received a Fulbright Scholar Award in 2023-24 which took her to Karl-Franzens-Universität (University of Graz) in Austria. Dr. Underwood received a Fulbright Scholar Award in 2024 which took her to Stockholms universitet (Stockholm University) and other institutions in Sweden. Dr. Metcalfe received a Fulbright Scholar Award in 2024 which took her to the Università di Bologna (University of Bologna) in Italy; more recently, she received on behalf of FSU a Scholar-in-Residence (S-I-R) award, enabling FSU to serve as a host institution in 2027 for a faculty member from the Università di Bologna, Dr. Franco Callegati.
The Fulbright Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, was established in 1946 to increase intercultural knowledge and foster peaceful relations between the United States and other countries. With more than 160 partnering nations around the world, the U.S. government offers scholarships to American citizens--including students, scholars, teachers, scientists, artists, and other professionals--to study, conduct research, teach, and/or pursue creative activities abroad. Citizens from other countries may likewise qualify for scholarships to come to the United States.
This panel talk will shed light on the many opportunities for international education and cultural exchange available through the Fulbright Program and how a Fulbright Award can strengthen a faculty member's skills in conducting research, teaching, and collaborative engagement.
