About
Join us for the opening reception of Professor Derek Anstis' exhibition Places Without Birds.
If you sit down to draw a bird, you may end up drawing a landscape. The bird calls you in, and you settle down to draw, but you end up drawing a bridge or tree. Birds are notoriously fast animals. Even though these drawings only took about 30 minutes, that is a lot of time for a busy bird. They really don’t like being stared at either. The lack of birds became conspicuous upon review. We need birds in our lives; their presence is felt even when they are not there.
Professor Derek Anstis has taught in the Fine Arts and Graphic Design department at PBSC for 25 years. He teaches classes such as Design Fundamentals, 3D Design, Color Design and Graphic Design 1.
Exhibition runs November 5 to December 10, 2026.
